Famous People

Famous people make a choice to be famous. They decide to be in the public eye. An example of the part a celebrity role model plays is body image because those in the public eye, especially female celebrities work hard to stay unnaturally slim and perfect setting the standards pretty high that girls and women find nearly impossible to keep to.

Girls, who grow up seeing this “perfection” as the only way to look, end up with self esteem and body issues which are almost impossible to overcome. It’s the same thing with smoking, violence and drug use. When children see something as depicted as ideal, cool or even just acceptable by the people they look up to, it changes their perspective on that thing.

When Michael Phelps is seen smoking marijuana or when Rihanna is seen tolerating violence from her boyfriend, parents begin to worry that their children are getting unhealthy ideas about what is right and what is wrong. However there is another side to there is another side to the “Celebrities are bad role models” because celebrities are just people, too. They make the choice to be famous in order to follow an art or a dream, the career path they happened to follow takes them into the public eye but that dosen’t stop them from being human, or from having a right to live their lives.

All over the world fame is being taken to more and more extreme levels, more and more unhealthy levels. Even though its a wonderful thing for a child to have somebody to look up to, everybody makes mistakes, and seeing that somebody you admire is human and fallible teaches a child something. It’s just a parents job to help their child understand what they’re looking at.

Many people especially parent’s claim that to be in the public eye is to accept a position as a role model. Especially for those whose art (sports, music ect.) appears particularly to kids.

Celebrities are people we look up to and admire. We place them on a pedestal and assume they can do no wrong but these thoughts are shattered each year as we see our favourite celebrity role models go bad and do things that make us angry. When they do go bad and make mistakes, the media is there to capture every detail. Quite often they are human moments that we all do and would be just as guilty of if we had a photographer watching our every move; however some moments are inexcusable no matter how you look at it.
