Anorexia Nervosais a psychiatric illness which describes an eating disorder characterized by extremely low body weight. Individuals with anorexia nervosa are known to control body weight through starvation, excessive exercise, or other weight control measures such as diet pills or diuretic drugs. Although the condition primarily affects adolescent females, approximately 10% of people diagnosed with Anorexia nervosa are male.

A lot of celebrities have suffered with anorexia, no one but themselves know what the reason behind it is, whether its because they choose to be anoreic in order to be thin or if they have no control over it.

Some celebrities claim that the reason behind their eating disorder is due to the stress from all their work and didn't have find time to eat properly.

Some models say that their eating disorders where caused because they were expected to be thin.

Eating disorders affect 7 girls in every 1000.

People suffer from eating disorders due to all kinds of reasons such as, peer pressure, family problems, what the media produce, depression or anxiety or it may even be genetic.

 

Anorexia Symptoms

  • Stressing constantly about their weight.
  • Being unable to control the amount of weight they loose.
  • Smoking and chewing gum to make sure they stay thin.
  • A loss of interest in sex
  • In women, periods may become irregular or even stop.
  • In men and boys erections and wet dreams stop and testicles shrink.

 

Singer Ashlee Simpson admitted that she had battled an eating disorder whilst she was in her teen. Ashlee says " I was around a lot of girls with eating disorders."

 

 

 

 

 

Actress Elisa Donovan battled an eating disorder in 1992. She says " At first, i'd eat no fat. Then i'd just eat breakfast cereal and toast and not eat again until night."

 

 

 

Amy Winehouse admitted that since 2004 she has struggled with an eating disorder." I went through every eating disorder you can have. A little bit of anorexia, a little bit of bulimia," she said, " I'm not totally okay now but i don't think any woman is."

 

 

Kate Beckinsale was open about her battle with anorexia, she says," People keep asking me about it but I don't want to be famous for being a forer anorexic."

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fiona Apple suffered from anonrexia from a young age. Fiona didn't have an eating disorder due to the fact she wanted to be thin, it was due to the emotional trauma of being raped at 12.

 

 

 

Former Gymnast Christy Henrich,22, died or multiple organ system failure. Christy trained for years as a gymnast and hoped to make the olympic team in 1988 and 1992. Christy was told by a U.S. judge that in order to make the Olympic team she had to lose weight.

 

 

Most teenagers don't know the dangers of trying to have a super- thin image. Elaine Yudkovitz, a specialist in eating disorders says, "The media has a tremandous influence impacting on girls to be thin".

Around one in every one hundred young girls suffer from anorexia. And around 10 percent of people who have anorexia die because of the illness whether its from suicide or from medical complications due to lack of food.
